Short version: if it’s your first time in Busan, I’d stay in Seomyeon, about 30 minutes from Gimhae airport by rail. Pick Haeundae if the beach is the reason for the trip, and Gwangalli if you want the bridge lit up at night.
These three areas aren’t next door to each other. Haeundae is about 70 minutes from the airport by rail, so where you sleep decides how much of each day goes to getting around.
Quick answer
- 🏨 First trip: Seomyeon; Haeundae for the beach, Gwangalli for night views
- ⏱ Gimhae airport by rail: about 30 min to Seomyeon, 50 to Gwangalli, 70 to Haeundae
- 🚌 Limousine bus: 6,000 won to Seomyeon, 9,500 won to Haeundae, no cash
- ✅ Seomyeon fits if: you have two or three nights and want a bit of everything

Where are Seomyeon, Gwangalli, and Haeundae?
Seomyeon is the city pick, in the Busanjin-gu district. Its 1beon-ga street is described as one of Busan’s busiest, lined with cafes, bars, and affordable restaurants.
Gwangalli and Haeundae are the two beach bases. Each has its own Metro Line 2 stop: Gwangan Station for Gwangalli and Haeundae Station for Haeundae.
The distances add up. VISITKOREA’s airport estimates put Haeundae roughly 40 minutes farther away by rail than Seomyeon, so I’d put the airport time next to the nightly price when you compare rooms.
Two questions settle it for me. Is the beach the reason you’re going, or one stop on the trip? And what time does your flight land? If the beach is a side trip and you land by early evening, the city base wins. Landing late? Read the late-arrival section before you pick.
How far is each base from Gimhae airport?

| Base | Rail | Taxi | Taxi fare (airport estimate) | Limousine bus |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Seomyeon | About 30 min | About 40 min | 18,000 won to Lotte Hotel | Limousine 2, 6,000 won |
| Bujeon | LRT, then Lines 2 and 1 | About 40 min | Not listed | Limousine 2, 6,000 won |
| Gwangalli | About 50 min | About 70 min | 25,000 won | No route named for it |
| Haeundae | About 70 min | About 70 min | 25,000 won to Paradise Hotel | Limousine 1, 9,500 won |
All the rail times follow one route. You ride the Busan–Gimhae Light Rail Transit (LRT) from Airport Station, then change at Sasang Station to Busan Metro Line 2. For Bujeon, continue from Seomyeon on Metro Line 1 for one stop, and check the current journey time for your arrival.
Taxis compare differently by area. VISITKOREA estimates about 40 minutes by taxi to Seomyeon or Bujeon, and the airport lists about 45 minutes to Lotte Hotel in Seomyeon. To Gwangalli or Haeundae it’s about 70 minutes. That’s the same as rail to Haeundae and slower than rail to Gwangalli. For the beach areas, a taxi buys you comfort, not time, so I’d save it for late arrivals.
Busan reorganized its airport limousine routes starting with the first departure on January 5, 2026, so older route maps may not match. Adult fares are 6,000 won on Limousine 2 (Seomyeon · Bujeon) and 9,500 won on Limousine 1 (Haeundae · Gijang). The table compares estimated journey times, the airport’s taxi fare estimates, and adult limousine fares.
Standard taxis start at 4,800 won for the first 2 km, with a late-night surcharge from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. The airport publishes estimated standard-taxi fares: 18,000 won to Lotte Hotel in Seomyeon and 25,000 won to Gwangalli or Paradise Hotel in Haeundae. Treat these as estimates, not fixed fares.
Seomyeon is my pick for a first trip

Gimhae airport to Seomyeon by rail
- At Gimhae International Airport, follow the signs to Airport Station for the Busan–Gimhae LRT.
- Ride the LRT to Sasang Station.
- Change to Busan Metro Line 2 at Sasang.
- Allow about 30 minutes for the whole trip to Seomyeon.
Seomyeon is the closest of the three to the airport, by rail and by taxi. Limousine 2 is also the cheaper airport bus. It stops at Seomyeon Station (Lotte Department Store) and leaves the airport between 07:20 and 21:30. I’d take the limousine if a departure fits your landing, and rail if it doesn’t.
It suits a short trip where you’d rather not plan every meal. The main street is full of cafes and affordable restaurants, so you have plenty to choose from without a long ride back.
The trade-off is no beach outside your door. That’s fine for a first visit, since both beach stations are on Metro Line 2.
Yuna’s pick
Two or three nights on a first visit? I’d book Seomyeon.
Four nights or more, with beach days as the main event? I’d split the stay: Seomyeon first, then Haeundae.
Is Haeundae worth the longer ride?

Rail time from Gimhae airport, in minutes
- Seomyeon: About 30 min
- Gwangalli: About 50 min
- Haeundae: About 70 min
If the beach is the point, yes. Haeundae Station is on Metro Line 2, and Haeundae Beach has free admission. Busan’s city government calls it the most popular and best-known beach in Korea.
The cost is time and a few thousand won. VISITKOREA estimates about 70 minutes from the airport to Haeundae by rail or taxi. Limousine 1 costs 9,500 won per adult, 3,500 won more than Limousine 2. For two adults, that’s 19,000 won against 12,000 won, each way.
Honest take
The real reason to sleep in Haeundae is the beach. If you’d only step on the sand once, don’t bother basing yourself there. Visit for an afternoon instead.
Gwangalli: the base for bridge views at night

Gwangalli is the middle option on the clock: about 50 minutes from the airport by rail and about 70 by taxi. The city highlights its night views of Gwangandaegyo Bridge. For Gwangalli, take Metro Line 2 to Gwangan Station and check the station’s exit signs.
The free Gwangalli M Drone Light Show is usually held on Saturdays through December 31, 2026, but there is no performance on November 7, 2026. November’s scheduled dates are the 14th, 21st, and 28th. Winter performances start at 19:00 and 21:00. On the first and third Saturdays of the month, the drone-and-laser format lasts 24 minutes; other regular shows run for at least 12 minutes. Weather or technical problems can cancel or delay it, so treat it as a bonus, not the reason to book.
Neither limousine route is named for Gwangalli, so rail is the simplest way in. I’d pick it as a base if your dates include a Saturday night and the bridge view matters more to you than Haeundae’s beach. Without a Saturday, skip it as a base. Haeundae is on the same Metro Line 2, so a beach day there stays easy from Gwangalli.
💡 Yuna’s tip
If the show matters to you, check the official calendar for your Saturday before booking. I’d aim for the 19:00 show and keep 21:00 as a backup.
Landing late? Check your bus before you book

| Bus | Fare | Leaves the airport |
|---|---|---|
| Limousine 2 (Seomyeon · Bujeon) | 6,000 won | 07:20 to 21:30, about every 60 to 80 min |
| Limousine 1, Gijang-bound | 9,500 won | 10:10 to 21:40 |
| Limousine 1, Jangsan-bound | 9,500 won | 07:10 to 16:50 |
This is the rule I’d check first. On the Haeundae line, the Jangsan-bound bus stops leaving the airport at 16:50, while the Gijang-bound bus runs until 21:40. I’d check the departure time and stop list before choosing a bus.
If you land at 17:00, for example, you’ve missed the Jangsan-bound bus, but Gijang-bound buses also stop at Haeundae Beach and Jangsan Station. After the last Jangsan-bound departure, check the Gijang-bound timetable and your hotel’s nearest stop.
The bus leaves from Platform 3 on the international terminal’s first floor, between Gates 2 and 3. Limousine 2 comes about every 60 to 80 minutes, so missing one can mean a long wait.
After the last bus, take a taxi. Follow the airport’s signs to the designated taxi stand. Taxis take cash, credit cards, or transportation cards. A late-night surcharge applies from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m.
⚠️ Heads-up
Cash isn’t accepted on the limousine. Busan’s notice allows transit or credit card boarding when seats are available; you can also book ahead or use the airport kiosk near Gate 4.

Do you need a transit card for Busan?
Checklist before your first Busan ride
- Pay subway and bus fares with a transportation card, because transfer discounts apply only to card payments.
- Don’t plan to pay the airport limousine in cash. Use a transit or credit card if seats are available, or book ahead.
- Note that the late-night taxi surcharge runs from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m.
- Save the 1330 Helpline for questions, by call or chat.
Yes, I’d get one before your first ride and use it for local buses and the metro. Busan’s transfer discounts apply only to transportation-card payments, cash fares on local buses are higher, and some city buses no longer accept cash. Airport limousines don’t offer free transfers.
That matters more the farther apart your plans are. A Seomyeon base with beach afternoons, or a Haeundae base with city evenings, means several rides a day. The same card also works in airport taxis.
Busan lists metro stations and convenience stores among the places to buy prepaid transit cards. Check the card’s purchase price at the shop.
For questions on the spot, VISITKOREA’s 1330 Helpline takes calls and chats. Online calls are free over Wi-Fi, though data charges may apply.
FAQ
Which Busan area is closest to Gimhae airport?
Seomyeon: about 30 minutes by rail, and about 40 to 45 minutes by taxi by the official estimates. Bujeon is also about 40 minutes by taxi and is on the same Limousine 2 route.
Can I pay for the airport limousine with cash or a transit card?
Cash: no. Busan’s notice allows transit or credit cards if seats are available.
Is the Gwangalli drone show on every night?
No. It’s usually on Saturdays, at 19:00 and 21:00 in winter, but there’s no show on November 7, 2026. It can be canceled or delayed for weather or technical problems, so check the official calendar.
Before you book a room, put your landing time next to the limousine hours.
For Haeundae, check the bus: the Jangsan-bound one stops leaving the airport at 16:50, and the Gijang-bound one, which also stops at Haeundae Beach, runs until 21:40.
Hwaiting! (It’s how Koreans say “you’ve got this.”)
