A jjimjilbang (찜질방) is a Korean bathhouse with heated rooms and a shared floor. The check-in and payment steps vary by venue. You get a set of clothes and a locker key, you shower before you go in, and you change into those clothes for the shared floor. When you leave, you return the key and pay for any extras at once.
For a first visit, I’d go in the daytime and start in the cooler rooms. Hours, prices and tattoo rules differ by place, so each price and opening time below belongs to one venue, from its own page or VisitKorea’s.
Quick answer
- 📍 Order: Check in, shoe locker, changing room, shower, bath, jjimjil clothes, shared floor, settle up
- 🔥 Hot rooms: Start at 30–40°C. Above 60°C, about 20 minutes at most
- 💳 Prices vary: Riverside Spa Land’s daytime jjimjilbang ticket is 15,000 won, while CIMER’s 4-hour Jjimjil Spa Pass is 40,000 won
The visit, from the counter to the exit
A first jjimjilbang visit, in order
- Check in and ask when to pay. At Hurshimchung, you get your key first and pay when you leave.
- Put your shoes in the shoe locker
- Undress in the changing room and shower
- Use the baths on the men’s or women’s side
- Put on the jjimjil clothes and head to the shared floor
- Try the heated rooms, coolest first
- Before leaving, settle any extras and follow the venue’s instructions for your key.

A Seoul city language lesson gives the reason for the shower: you’re naked in the sauna, so get clean before you go in.
Once you’re dressed, you’re on the shared floor. The same lesson calls it the area with men and women together, where the special rooms are. CIMER’s price page lists basic jjimjil clothes as included in the ticket. Elsewhere, ask whether they’re included before you pay.
Your locker key, usually worn on your wrist or ankle, also works as your tab. VisitKorea says you use it at snack bars, massage chairs, coin karaoke and photo booths, then pay for those extras in one go when you hand it back. So I’d leave my wallet in the locker. At CIMER, your shoe locker and clothes locker share your key’s number, so check it before you walk away from the locker rows. At CIMER, pay on the first floor, then leave the key in the shoe locker as you exit.
Bath side, shared floor and sleeping rooms
| Area | Who | What the sources say |
|---|---|---|
| Baths, showers, changing rooms | Men and women separately | Aquafield bars boys and girls from age 4 from sharing them; Hurshimchung’s Korean guide allows mixed bathing only for children aged 48 months or younger who are under 100 cm tall and accompanied by a guardian |
| Shared floor and special rooms | Men and women together | The Seoul city lesson’s “area with men and women together”; CIMER’s jjimjil floor is jjimjil clothes only |
| Sleeping rooms | Men and women separately | The Seoul city lesson: a women’s sleeping room and a men’s sleeping room |
CIMER also asks you to put your shoes in the shoe locker within 10 minutes of buying your ticket.
VisitKorea’s CIMER page suggests rolling a towel and wearing it on your head while you sweat. You don’t have to.
Hot rooms first, then eggs and sikhye
Heat guidelines for a first visit
- Cooler rooms, 30–40°C (86–104°F): start here
- Hotter rooms: work your way up as you get comfortable
- Rooms over 60°C (140°F): about 20 minutes at most, to avoid burns or dehydration
Those steps are VisitKorea’s. The Seoul city lesson adds the hanjeungmak, which it calls “like a super hot oven.” You can time yourself there with an hourglass, about five minutes, and on a first visit I’d leave it for last.
💬 Say it in Korean
한증막
hanjeungmak
The very hot sauna room the Seoul lesson describes. Keep your time in it short.
Most visits last hours, and Visit Seoul says food is always for sale. It calls roasted eggs and sikhye, a sweet rice punch, the two most typical jjimjilbang foods. VisitKorea’s guide adds fish cake bars, fried chicken, tteokbokki, cup noodles and ice cream at the snack bar. I’d order the eggs and sikhye first.

Where to go, and when it closes
| Place | Adult entry | Hours | One ticket covers |
|---|---|---|---|
| Riverside Spa Land, Seoul | Jjimjilbang: 15,000 won by day (05:00–20:00), 17,000 won at night (20:00–05:00) | Open 24 hours | 15 hours, then 1,000 won per extra hour |
| Hurshimchung, Busan | Hot spring 15,000 won weekdays, 18,000 won weekends and holidays; separate rate for the saunas | Hot spring 05:30–22:00; jjimjil saunas 06:30–21:00 | Check the current time limit with the spa |
| Spa Land Centum City, Busan | 26,000 won | 09:00–22:00, last entry 21:00 | 4 hours, or 6 hours if you spend at least 10,000 won inside, excluding admission |
| Aquafield (Hanam, Goyang, Anseong) | Jjimjil spa 26,000 won | Jjimjil spa 10:00–22:00 | Up to 6 hours |
| Paradise City CIMER, Incheon | Jjimjil Spa Pass 40,000 won | 10:00–21:00, last entry 19:30 | 4 hours, basic clothes included |
Spa: Paradise City CIMER tickets on Klook
Of these five, only Riverside Spa Land lists 24-hour opening. Its own page lists daytime and nighttime jjimjilbang prices and a 15-hour stay before extra charges apply. Spa Land Centum City adds 5,000 won per extra hour after the included time. Spend at least 10,000 won inside, excluding admission, and you get 6 hours instead of 4. Aquafield adds 5,000 won per extra hour after 6 hours; CIMER adds 10,000 won per extra hour after 4 hours.
You can sleep at a place that stays open all night, in separate sleeping rooms for men and women. Check the exact place first, since not every jjimjilbang is open all night.
With children, I’d read the age rules before you pick. Spa Land Centum City admits children from elementary school age. Elementary school children need a guardian of the same sex. At Aquafield, children aged 10 and under need a guardian.
Yuna’s pick
For a lower-priced 24-hour option, I’d pick Riverside Spa Land by day: jjimjilbang entry is 15,000 won.
In Busan with a few hours to spare? I’d pick Hurshimchung and finish before its saunas close at 21:00.
Dragon Hill Spa is marked closed on Visit Seoul, in information as of June 2026.
Honest take
As a one-night fallback, a 24-hour jjimjilbang works. For a whole trip, I’d skip it: you sleep in a shared room, and lockers may not take big luggage. Spa Land Centum City keeps large suitcases out of its inside lockers.
FAQ
Do I have to be naked?
In the baths, yes, and that side is split by sex. On the shared floor you wear the jjimjil clothes.
Are tattoos allowed?
I couldn’t find a rule that covers every jjimjilbang. Hurshimchung’s Korean guide bars guests with tattoos or skin diseases from entering. For other venues, check their own rules or call the 1330 Travel Hotline at +82-2-1330.
Can couples go together?
On the shared floor, yes. A November 2024 VisitKorea guide suggests the 9th-floor Relax Zone at Puksuwon Spaplex in Suwon for couples, friends and families. The baths and the sleeping rooms are separate.
How do I pay for snacks inside?
Use your locker key to charge snacks, then settle up before leaving. At CIMER, leave the key in the shoe locker after paying.
